48 teams entered, and after just two sets of matches, 12 have secured their advance in the Game Changers Series 3, and 12 have been eliminated. For the first time in Game Changers history, a GSL format was used for the group stage, which meant fans said goodbye to many teams much faster than in previous tournaments.
The first twelve teams to qualify through to the closed qualifier stage’s double elimination bracket did so by winning their opening match and the winner’s match.
The teams each move forward into the double-elimination bracket as the top seed from their respective groups.
Notably, not all the teams who qualified on the first day of competition were initially ranked as the top seed in their group. The teams who outperformed their seeding are: Fake Aussies and hamboigas, while the remaining ten teams were originally seeded first in their groups.
Unfortunately, not all teams can qualify for the next stage, and today, fans said goodbye to 12 teams who lost both their opening match and the elimination match.
The teams eliminated today are Catgirl Cartel, Interstellar, Angels of Mischief, Team TEA, One More Game, Uplyft Esports, Deer Fan Club, ID Ruby, Invicta, Xanity Crimson, Adore Esports, and Team Colossal.
Whereas in a Swiss stage, where only six teams would be eliminated on the first day, the GSL format eliminates twelve on the first day, cutting the Game Changers Run shorter for some teams.
The remaining 24 teams have one more match tomorrow to determine their fate in Series 3. Those matchups are:
capybaras v WHITEOUT
One Mom Four Kittens v White Cats
EQ Cerise v Moonshot
Tactical Throwers v New Moon White
Crouch Shooters v OVERKILL
26 Rising v Starlight
Xanity v Ariana Grande Perfume
Dart Monkeys v BHOP Celestial
NMG Celeste v heckin love dinos
Solaire v Ara Ara
VersionX v PommyPurin
CLG Red v 1Millisecond X
These matches will begin at 1 pm PST tomorrow. Following the decider matches, the first round of the closed qualifier will take place.
