Game Changers Series 3 Main eVent Preview

The main event of the highly-anticipated North American Game Changers Series 3 kicks off today, with two coveted qualification spots in the Game Changers Championship up for grabs.

What’s at Stake

The remaining eight teams are divided into two categories, teams who can qualify through circuit points as a backup plan, and teams who must win it all.

The teams who can still qualify through circuit points are Cloud9 White, Shopify Rebellion, Evil Geniuses, and TSM X, although the paths for Evil Geniuses and TSM X are very complex.

Cloud9 White currently has a 40 point lead on the remaining teams, meaning should they win one match in the main event, they secure their ticket to Berlin.

In the case of Shopify Rebellion, they would need to place second to qualify over Cloud9 White, although if Cloud9 wins the tournament outright, they only need to place fourth to secure their spot no matter what.

Evil Geniuses has an even more complicated path, as they cannot qualify if Cloud9 does not place first. Additionally, they must make up 30 points on Shopify. This means any placement outside of the top three will not give Evil Geniuses enough to qualify.

TSM X has the most complex path to qualify. The only way in which TSM can qualify to Berlin is if Cloud9 places first and Shopify Rebellion loses both of their matches to place 7th/8th.

The other four teams, Immortals, XSET Purple, Complexity GX3, and Misfits Black must place first to qualify to Berlin.

Format

The main event uses a double elimination format with all matches played best-of-three, excluding the Lower Final and Grand Final, which are best-of-five.

The opening matchups are as follows:

The first round of the upper bracket will start at 1:00pm PST Oct. 12, with the upper semifinals and first round of the lower bracket starting at 4:00pm PST the same day.

On Oct. 13, the lower second round will take place starting at 1:00pm PST.

Oct. 14 will start with the third round in the lower bracket at 1:00pm PST, with the upper bracket finals at 4:00pm PST.

Oct. 15 will have the lower bracket final, starting at 1:00pm PST, with the Grand Finals taking place Oct. 16 at 1:00pm PST.
