Starting day 5 the stakes could not be higher — one of three teams is going to face the NA titans in Shopify Rebellion, but before that they must overcome the lower bracket to ascend back to the Grand Final.
To start off the day, Team Liquid and Team SMG fought for a chance to play against G2 Gozen in the Lower Finals — both were knocked down by that same team, and now they played against each other for a rematch. SMG had the upper hand in the beginning, beating TL 13–9 on Haven with both Kohaibi and enerii dropping over 20 kills.
Map 2 was a bit different however, as Liquid took the upper hand on Bind, a map which SMG had been dominating on, and took the win 13–7 with star-like performances from bstrdd and joojina.
With that momentum they took over map 3 as well to secure a date against G2, winning 13–10 on Ascent. With that Team SMG was knocked out of the tournament, but their dark horse run through the lower bracket is one to remember.
With their momentum still going, TL were looking to defeat the reigning champions and titans of EMEA — G2 Gozen. Whoever won this would receive a golden chance to fight for the trophy and face off against Shopify Rebellion.
Map 1 was nothing short of impressive, as Liquid continued their winning streak on Ascent, winning 13–9 with amazing performances from bstrdd and bizerra, the former having a 23/14/1 KDA and a 38% HS rate.
Map 2 was Lotus — one G2 have beaten TL on before. When all the cards seemed to be in G2’s favour, TL showed yet again why they don’t need a fair deck to prove themselves as champions, beating G2 yet again 13–7 and moving into the Grand Final as the hometown heroes. Gozen should be proud of their efforts, showing top-tier performances both last year and this year as well!
Tomorrow are the Grand Finals where we will get to see who stands supreme over all else. Who are you rooting for — the hometown heroes — Team Liquid Brazil or the unstoppable titans — Shopify Rebellion? Either way, we hope you enjoy the final GC matchup of the year!
