The third day in North America’s Game Changers Series 1 saw the field of competitors shrink from six to just four.
The third day of North America’s Game Changers Series 1 took place entirely in the lower bracket, with two hard-fought matches ending two teams’ runs in the tournament.
The first match of the day took place between YFP X and Decimate, starting on the newest map, Sunset. YFP took an early lead in the series, converting their 7–5 first half into a 13–9 map win behind three 20-plus kill performances (nekoaimer, Kazler, korosu).
Moving to the newly-renovated Lotus, YFP kept their momentum into the early parts of the map, taking an early 7–2 lead despite losing the first two rounds. However, Decimate flipped the script just before the half, winning the last three rounds, and continuing their momentum into eight straight rounds to win the map 13–7.
The series then moved to the decider, Ascent. Decimate jumped out to an early 10–2 lead behind xann’s 17 kill half, including four first kills. YFP clawed back into the map, getting as close as two rounds, but the first half deficit proved too large to overcome, as Decimate closed out the map 13–10, winning the series to advance to the third round in the lower bracket.
YFP X was eliminated from Series 1 contention in 5th/6th place, while Decimate would start a lower bracket run of their own, awaiting the winner of Passion Project and Supernova Galaxy.
In the second match of the day, Supernova Galaxy faced off against Passion Project, with tournament elimination on the line once more.
The series kicked off on Split, starting close with a 5–5 tie through ten rounds, but a 23–11–8 performance from Jazzyk1ns was enough to help her team string ten rounds in a row together, taking the first map,13–5.
On the second map, Lotus, Supernova Galaxy struck back with a vengeance, taking the first eight rounds in a row, eventually reaching map point up seven rounds, and although Passion Project fought back, ultimately Supernova Galaxy closed out the map, 13–10, to tie the series.
On the decider, Ascent, Supernova Galaxy would bring back their unconventional agent composition, which they debuted against The Boys to great success, winning that map 13–1.
However, they would not be able to recreate that level of success against Passion Project, who would win the first ten rounds in a row, using the “default” Ascent composition. Supernova Galaxy was able to take a couple rounds in the second half, but Passion Project powered through, winning the map 13–3 and taking the series 2–1.
Tomorrow all four teams will be in action, starting with the upper finals between Shopify Rebellion and FlyQuest RED and concluding with the third round in the lower bracket between Passion Project and Decimate.
