In the penultimate day of North America’s Game Changers Series 1, the final two competitors were determined.
The second-to-last day in North America’s Game Changers Series 1 had only one match, a best of five between FlyQuest RED and Decimate.
The match began on Icebox, Decimate’s first pick, with each team taking turns stringing rounds together. Ultimately, it was Decimate who could go on a longer hot streak to end the map in their favor 13–9 and striking first in the series.
The next map in the series, Split, was FlyQuest’s pick and looked like it, with FlyQuest only allowing their opponents three rounds on their way to a dominating 13–3 victory to tie the series at one map apiece.
With the series tied 1–1, both teams looked to take the lead on Sunset. FlyQuest would try to continue their momentum from the previous map, taking seven of the first nine rounds, and a back-and-forth second half would not go in the favor of Decimate, as they ran out of time trading rounds, with FlyQuest taking the map 13–7.
FlyQuest, having stolen their opponent’s second map pick, had the opportunity to close out the series on their pick of Ascent, in which Decimate chose to start on the weaker attacking side. FlyQuest took advantage of this on their way to a 9–3 defending half, and although Decimate was able to bring it as close as 11–12, FlyQuest won the last round of regulation to win the map 13–11, and the series 3–1.
Tomorrow will be the final day of North America’s Series 1, with FlyQuest in a rematch against the reigning champions Shopify Rebellion in a best-of-five grand final. As the upper bracket team, Shopify Rebellion will have a two map ban advantage.
